Itinerary 3 Day Morocco student tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS → AIT BENHADDOU → DADES VALLEY

The adventure begins with an early pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech aboard a private, air-conditioned coach. Almost immediately, the road climbs into the High Atlas, winding along the Tizi N’Tichka pass where the group stops to take in the folded rock formations and the small Berber hamlets perched on the slopes. Mid-morning brings the group to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah built entirely from clay and straw — a striking real-world example of how pre-Saharan architecture kept buildings cool without modern materials. Students wander its narrow lanes to see the construction up close before the coach continues along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward the Dades Valley, where the group overnights surrounded by canyon walls sculpted by wind and time.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TODRA GORGES → MERZOUGA DESERT & DESERT CAMP

After breakfast with a view over the valley, the route heads to the Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs rise nearly 300 meters above a narrow riverbed — a natural case study in erosion carved out over thousands of years. The group walks the canyon floor, talks with local farmers, and looks at the irrigation channels that have kept this oasis fertile for generations. By afternoon, the rocky terrain gives way entirely to the open sand seas of Merzouga. At the edge of Erg Chebbi, students climb onto camels for a sunset trek across the dunes, arriving at a secure desert camp as the sky turns orange. DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → DRAA VALLEY → MARRAKECH AIRPORT

Students wake before dawn to watch sunrise break over the dunes — one of the most photographed moments of the whole trip. After breakfast at camp, a short group talk covers desertification and the challenges facing Morocco’s nomadic communities today, before everyone boards the vehicle for the long drive back. The route passes through the Draa Valley, a green corridor of date palms cutting through dark volcanic hills, with stops along the way for photos, conversation, and lunch. The coach crosses back over the Atlas range and arrives at Marrakech Airport or the group’s chosen drop-off point by evening, closing out three days that most students describe as unforgettable.
